Security of Supply for the Sufficiency and Quality of Natural Waters in Satakunta.

Climate change is increasing extreme weather events. Floods and heavy rainfall are becoming more common, while dry periods are becoming longer. Rising temperatures are also increasing the temperature of natural waters, which in turn weakens water quality. These changes affect the health of aquatic ecosystems as well as the use of water resources. To minimize the negative impacts on society, it is important to anticipate these changes and plan adaptation measures.

The project examines the estimated impacts of climate change on natural waters in Satakunta and the effects of these changes on regional industry and energy production. The project seeks solutions that enable industries and energy production along the Kokemäki River and Eurajoki River to adapt to climate change and secure the availability of high-quality water far into the future.

The project is part of a larger project entity coordinated by Pyhäjärvi Institute, with Satakunta University of Applied Sciences also participating. The project is funded by the Regional Council of Satakunta through ERDF funding.

Implementation period: 1 September 2024 – 30 April 2027.
