Optimized nutrient recycling and logistics of residual sludge of biogas plants

Satakunta is distinguished as a region where the food industry and agriculture flourish, seamlessly integrating biogas production within its operational framework. The area already hosts several biogas facilities, with additional plants currently in the planning stages. These biogas plants are pivotal in aggregating nutrient-rich organic waste from agricultural activities, the food industry, and households, serving as the foundational raw material for the biogas production process. The byproduct sludges from these plants are recognized for their potential as effective fertilizers.

This project is dedicated to devising an optimal logistics strategy for the nutrient recycling of residual sludges emanating from three distinct biogas facilities.

We are collaborating with the Pyhäjärvi Institute on this venture, which is generously supported by the European Agricultural Fund, underlining our commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and resource management.
