Strengthening and Securing the Bioeconomy of Satakunta – BIOVAHVA

The aim of the BIOVAHVA project is to compensate for the economic losses caused by the decline in peat production by developing and improving the operations of the bioeconomy and food production chain in the Satakunta region, thereby strengthening their economic viability. The project seeks to reduce energy and material waste, increase the use of renewable energy and waste heat, and promote the creation of circular economy ecosystems and new business opportunities within the bioeconomy and food production sectors.

The project aims to support the growth of greenhouse production, improve nutrient efficiency, and accelerate the adoption of circular economy solutions in the bioeconomy sector. In addition, the project will establish an operational cooperation platform for RDI activities in Satakunta’s bioeconomy sector, where research organizations and industry representatives will jointly define development priorities for regional food production, the bioeconomy, and the food value chain.

The project is part of a larger project entity coordinated by Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, with Pyhäjärvi Institute and Satafood Development Association also participating. The project implementation period is from 1 January 2024 to 30 June 2026.

The project is co-funded by the European Union.

Project entity

BIOVAHVA – Strengthening and Securing the Bioeconomy of Satakunta is a joint project involving four organizations. The project is coordinated by the WANDER Water Institute of Satakunta University of Applied Sciences. Other project partners include Pyhäjärvi Institute, Prizztech Oy, and Satafood Development Association.

The project consists of four work packages and a total of 14 measures, two of which focus on communication and coordination. Each project partner is responsible for one work package and has the main responsibility for specific measures. The measures managed by Prizztech Oy are marked separately. In addition, the list includes interesting links related to the other measures.
